Field Training Officer
This 2 day intensive seminar is designed to train officers on the techniques and procedures of training new
officers who have just graduated from the Police Academy.

Course Overview:
No function of the Police Department is as important as the training that officers fresh from the Police
Academy receive. Career-long habits and traits are formed during these important first weeks of police work.
New officers will form their individual style based on the exposure to their Field Training Officers. It is very
important that Field Training Officers receive the best training so that they become a desirable mentor for
new officers. Supervisors who administer the program need to be trained in proper administrative procedures
Topics Covered:
This course is designed to train a new FTO program administrator and the new Field Training Officer or to
provide refresher training for previously trained personnel.
The entire FTO program will be built from the ground up. This program will cover training philosophies and
techniques and the proper procedure for completing daily observation reports using the standard evaluation
guidelines to accurately and consistetnly score a recruit's actions and progress. Students will be given all
forms and reference material needed to properly document a recruit officer’s performance and progress.
Program Administrators will learn about the selection of FTO’s, remedial training, administrative process to
dismiss an ineffective recruit, how to supervise an FTO program and many other related topics.

Who Should Attend:
Officers who will be charged with the day-to-day training of recruits fresh from the Police Academy will
become better trainers after attending this course. Supervisors who will oversee and administer their
department's Training function will also benefit from taking this course.
Departments who desire to completely revamp or modernize their FTO Program should consider enrolling

Instructor:
Lt Anthony Saporito, Commander, Internal Affairs Unit, is a 20 year veteran of Cherry Hill, NJ Police
Department, has extensive experience in patrol operations, investigative operations and police management.
Lt. Saporito is a Field Training Officer Program instructor for the NJ Department of Criminal Justice.

The cost for this 2 day course is only $295.00 per student. This training is available only to sworn law
enforcement officers and civilians acting in the position of Training Coordinator.
