Internal Affairs for Supervisors

This 1 day intensive seminar is designed to give Watch Commanders, Sergeants and
Corporals instruction on their role in the internal affairs process.

Course Overview: Internal Affairs is one of the most important functions of the police
department. To insure department integrity, honesty and professionalism, not only must the
department investigate all allegations of misconduct but must also monitor the day to day
operations to insure compliance with guidelines.

Topics Covered:  An Overview of the IA Process, Receiving Complaints, Routing Complaints,
Conducting Command Investigations, Findings, Documentation of Employee Performance,
and NJ Attorney General Policy & Procedures.

Who Should Attend: Watch Commanders, Sergeants, Corporals or any other officer who
might be in a position of supervision and may have to handle complaints, conduct Watch
Level Investigations and initiate the IA process as first responding supervisor to more
serious incidents. The course is designed to cover procedures established by the New
Jersey Attorney General however personnel from other states will also benefit from the
general principles presented.

Instructor: Lt Anthony Saporito, Commander, Internal Affairs Unit, is a 20 year veteran of
Cherry Hill, NJ Police Department, has extensive experience in patrol operations,
investigative operations and police management.  

Costs: The cost for this 1 day, 8 hour course is only $150.00 per student.
